Boardmasters Festival

"Vision in Focus"

"Seeing the bigger picture – protecting the festival while capturing its spirit."

Boardmasters 2025 – On the Gates, In the Moment

At Boardmasters, my role as a Security Supervisor starts at the gates – the first point of welcome and protection for thousands of festival-goers. Working alongside a skilled team of security staff, dog handlers, and event crew, our focus is keeping the entry process safe, smooth, and enjoyable for everyone.

Between the flow of people and the demands of the role, I also find time to step behind the camera. As a photographer, I capture the energy, the atmosphere, and the unforgettable moments that define this festival – offering businesses, brands, and individuals high-quality images that tell their story.

This blog brings together both sides of my experience here in Cornwall – the professionalism and teamwork on the ground, and the creative eye that sees the magic in between.

RNLI – Guardians of the Coast
The RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) are more than lifeguards—they are highly trained lifesavers who watch over our coasts every single day. At Watergate Bay, their presence is constant and reassuring: scanning the waves, anticipating danger before it happens, and stepping in with speed and precision when lives are at risk. From setting safe swim zones to braving rough seas for a rescue, they are the difference between tragedy and safety. Their work is a seamless blend of vigilance, quick response, and community trust.

Me as a Photographer
As a photographer, I don’t just capture images—I tell stories that breathe. My lens is drawn to moments of human connection, courage, and purpose. Documenting the RNLI at Watergate Bay wasn’t just about taking photos—it was about showing the heartbeat of a team that lives to protect. Every frame is intentional: the grit in their focus, the urgency in their movements, the quiet moments of watchfulness between rescues.

Watergate Bay Lifeguards – Looking Over and Saving Lives
At Watergate Bay, lifeguards aren’t just stationed—they are everywhere. From 4x4s on the shoreline to quads darting across the sand, from surf rescue boards ready to launch to radios buzzing with constant updates, they keep an invisible safety net across the beach. Whether it’s guiding surfers, pulling someone from a rip current, or scanning the horizon, their commitment is unwavering.

Surfing, Branding, and the Power of Presence
These images also tell a bigger story: the RNLI’s branding is more than a logo—it’s a promise. Bold reds, yellows, and their instantly recognizable mark stand out against the beach landscape. To a beachgoer, it means safety. To a surfer, it means confidence in the waves. To a community, it means trust.

My Experience

End of Blog – "Jess & Her Four-Legged Guardian: The Heartbeat of Festival Safety"

Under the hot Cornish sun at Boardmasters 2025, Jess and her loyal working dog moved as one — sniffing, searching, and keeping watch over thousands of festival-goers. Between moments of focused work and quick bursts of play, their bond showed exactly what great festival security is all about: trust, communication, and teamwork.

From the gates to the campsites, every part of the event’s safety depended on the collaboration between dedicated teams — security staff, dog handlers, and event crews — all working behind the scenes so people could relax and enjoy the music, the surf, and the atmosphere.

Jess and her four-legged partner are a reminder that keeping festivals safe isn’t just about procedures — it’s about people (and dogs) who care enough to give their all. For anyone who’s danced in a crowd, chilled on a beach stage, or simply felt at ease knowing the right people were looking out for them — this is the team making it happen.
